A glimpse of RV park life for a week, part 1.

I was not lucky with the cards at the poker run.

What is it like in a "winter" RV park?  Well, this is our first year, and from what we've heard, this is certainly not a "normal" year with all of the Covid restrictions.

Sandcastle Village

Anyone else watch  the landing of the Perseverance rover on Mars Weds.?  It was actually a simulation of the landing, but we saw the first picture of Mars it sent back.  It has a drone helicopter, Ingenuity, on board.  Lots of data to be collected on Mars as well as on the equipment just sent up.

Brrrrrrr (not enough "r's" for this polar vortex)!

No, no icicles down here!

TUESDAY:

Still no power, internet or cable.  People in the park are getting testy!🙃  Like what could be more important than our park?  Maybe the other several million without power?  I am concerned about the elderly, and I realize cold weather and no power is something many people have never had to deal with.  Our park is like a family and everyone looks out for each other.  Nice we are connected on a Facebook page.

Butterfly capital of the U.S.

Tuesday night our entire park was smokey.  I wasn't the only one complaining. Tiny pieces of soot came right through the screens. They are burning the sugarcane!  I've never thought much about sugar cane until we came down here.  I assumed, when someone first told me what it was (this isn't the first time), that they burned the field after harvest, but no, they burn the leaves prior to harvest for easier access so they can harvest it quicker and more efficiently.  They produce 1.5 million tons of sugar cane across the RGV.

A nature walk

Today, Friday, was our 2nd Moderna vaccine.  As long as we arrived by noon we were supposed to be guaranteed a dose, as this clinic was only for those who had their first dose 4 weeks ago.  They started vaccines at 6 a.m. but we didn't show up until 7.

10, 9, 8, 7... 🚀

Blast off

Today was finally a go and what a show!  It took off a little later than expected, partially because they found a truck still in the area that was suppose to have been evacuated.  A little blurry and the only picture I have of  SpaceX SN9.
