Family time

Josh, Zia, Cyrus and Samira joined us last week in Portland.  Josh flew back Monday and the rest stayed for a vacation. We went to the beach in Seaside, Cannon Beach, and back to Seaside in OR. Wednesday we moved on to Memaloose State Park.  One word:  HOT!🔥 Temperatures will be back in the 100's.  Normal highs in July? 85°

At 11,400' Mount Hood, located 50 miles east/southeast of Portland, is the tallest mountain in Oregon.  It is considered an active stratovalcano that last erupted in the 1790's.  It is home to many ski resorts that are opened year round.

"I cook with wine, sometimes I even add it to the food." --W. C. Fields

What fictious TV show is based in this town?

This is our second night at a Harvest Host on our way from Joseph Stewart County Park headed toward Portland.  We really appreciated the hospitality of both hosts.

Chip or Dale?

We were not the ones who spotted it!  The prior sign was dated back in 2019.

Thursday was our last day at Crater Lake.  Friday was spent doing chores and relaxing.  High Friday:  84°

Crater Lake

Crater Lake's scenic Rim Drive is a 33 mile loop with more than 30 pullouts.  The drive could be made in an hour, they suggest allowing 2-3 hours, and we spent 4 hours on Weds.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonaide;

make the most of what you've got; when life gives you 100 reasons to cry, show life you have 1,000 reasons to smile; life is not the absence of problems, it's the ability to deal with them; when life gives you dirt, grow flowers.  It makes a perfect playing card rack!

The end of the Redwood Forests

Battery Point Lighthouse, Cresent City, CA
Between it and Battery Point Beach there are huge rocks.

We have now been in, or driven through, Redwood National Park and the three State Parks.  Friday we stopped in Jedediah Smith State Park and drove through Del Norte Coast.

I'm sure Krikkit is running again in the meadow by the Rainbow Bridge, maybe chasing a rabbit.

She hadn't eaten or drank for a couple of days but an ice cream cone got a few licks this morning.

She will greet us one day barking, wiggling all over, tail wagging, with loads of kisses, and we will cross that bridge together!

From the Redwood Forests...This land was made for you and me...--Woody Guthrie

We spent our time in Redding, CA at 106°.  I mean the water coming out of the tap was beyond warm.  Now we're over to the coastal town of Klamath and we are into the mid-60's, tops, for several days.  I'm sorry, that's a 40° drop and I'm cold.

Sometimes there just aren't any words...

Having to post this breaks our hearts!  I can't remember when I didn't refer to them as "the Eric's."  Not our Eric and their Eric, or Eric P. and Eric M., just "the Eric's."

A party!

Lots of wildflowers along the road on our trek to the west coast Monday.

Monday we were on the road early to get to Mystic Forest RV park near Klamath, CA.  It was 199 miles of ups, downs, and curvy roads.  A 5 hour drive.

Which Burger place is better?

I've heard people rave about this fast food burger spot so I had to give it a try.  As soon as we got set up at Win-River Resort and Casino in Redding, CA Sat. we had errands to run, but this place was at the top of the list.  Do you know it's name?

It's getting hot again!

Wards Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park, near Ely, NV

The 6 beehive charcoal ovens were used for smelting silver ore from 1876-1879 during the silver boom.  Later bandits used them as hideouts.
