Thank you to our Harvest Host, Messina Hof Hill Country Winery in Fredericksburg, Tx, for their hospitality Tuesday. |
Before we left the Anawana Camp RV Park Tuesday morning we were able to enjoy a little nature.

Messina Hof is a beatiful Winery and a great host. The have plenty of space for parking and we were joined by one other RV for the night.

Lunch was a huge cheeseboard, along with our 5 wine samples. We intended to take half of the food back for dinner but, alas, only 1 lonely craison was left. We agreed that every wine we tested was great, but the Pinot Noir was the favorite of both of us. |

Samples were generous. Maybe, too generous? |
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a pink granite mountain located in the Llano Uplift about 17 miles north of Fredericksburg. There are 11 miles of hiking trails. You must pay your entrance fee of $8 and reserve your entry time prior to your arrival.
When we stayed with our grandaughters in Houston a couple of weeks ago, Eric and Toni visited this area. Eric said we would enjoy Enchanted Rock and we did.
Temperatures were suppose to set a record of 95° today. I think it was pretty humid but Pat said it was too hot to tell! I have a problem with heat after having heat stroke a few years ago. We usually hike in the early morning, but we leave tomorrow, so that wasn't an option. We loaded up with 4 bottles of water each.

The 1.3 mile in and out Summit Trail takes you up to the top with a view of the hill country. It's considered a moderately difficult trail. 96° degrees at 3 p.m. when we headed out. |

We were about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up. The climb wasn't bad and it wasn't very long, but I wasn't feeling well at all at this point. Not sure if it was the heat, the wine, or both. Pat said there was no pushing on, the result of heat sickness isn't pleasant for either of us. |
|
On the way back I layed down in nearly the only shade on the mountain. I told Pat to go on, I was just going to sleep here! Of course he didn't. He poured more water on me and put a cold pack on my back and I made it.

We met Jupiter Jones, currently from FL, going and coming. We shared hiking experiences. |

Fredericksburg has a population of 11,000. The downtown looked like it had lots of nice shops but we drove through in favor of a Sonic drink. There are over 100 wineries in the Texas hill country. There are more than 50 wineries, vineyards, and tasting rooms located in Fredericksburg's Gillespie County alone. |
|
Bluebonnets are in bloom! Wild Seed Farms grows them for seed so you couldn't get into the fenced field. A lot of people were stopping to take pictures of the field though. |

Junk art of Johan Eyfells, a well-known sculptor who died in 2019. Born in Iceland, he moved to Fredericksburg in the 1980's, making art in his yard until the age of 96. |
