Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: Deep, steep and narrow

Painted wall

The cracks on this wall are used by rock climbers.

Painted Wall is the tallest cliff in Colorado at 2,250 ft.

Sunset Point, just not at sunset.

Elk Mountains in the background from Warner Point.

East Portal Road went down to the bottom of the canyon. It was steep and curvy, but the road was great. No m&m's required.

The Gunnison tunnel was carved through the mountains between 1905 and 1909. 9 men died. It was considered an engineering marvel. The Gunnison River was diverted through this tunnel to provide Montrose, CO with city water and irrigation for that area, as it still does today.

Where are the Piepers now? Estes Park CO
