Who is Vincent Van Gogh?

On his deathbed in France in 1890, he told his brother, "the sadness will last forever."  That was Mondays final Jeopardy answer.  None of the 3 contestants knew the question, but I did.  Thank you "Immersive Van Gogh" for making me feel smart for one minute!

The Laguna Madre Nature Trail is a 1 mile boardwalk next to the South Padre Island Convention Center.  It attracts migratory birds (in Oct. and Nov. though, not Jan.) but has other wildlife.  We didn't see much wildlife but it offered nice views of the ocean and surrounding  area.

Luna "represents the endless miles a sea turtle travels through the deep waves of the  ocean, under the beautiful stars and moon.  This art, by Ariel King, reveals the duality between day and night, land and sea.

Luna is part of South Padre Islands Sea Turtle Art Trail.

Cooler Tuesday.  The waves were pretty strong even on the bay side.

The fishing pier we walked on last week isn't under water, I don't think,  but it was close out on the end.

Last year we learned this was a scour. where the water wears away the sand on the beach.

I do not like cooking but occasionally I get motivated.  I had an epic fail and a success this week.  This Baked Hawaiian Chicken was delicious!  I tried a different Squash Soup recipe and it was👎🤮.  Win some, lose some.

Monday was a miserably cold and windy day.  I realize that those of you with snow, ice, and temperatures close to zero have no pity for 50° temperatures.  We went with Sally and Mike to check out SpaceX near Boca Chica.

Starbase is the rocket production facility, test site, and spaceport constructed by SpaceX.

Further down the road is the launching area.  This is the tower that will catch the booster when Starship is launched.

When we were here last near none of this was here.  It was interesting to see so much change.

Our daily walk on the beach on Sunday.  Someone was feeding the birds.

Oleander???

Goose Barnacles are filter-feeding crustaceans that live attached to rocks, ships, ropes, or as here, logs. They are a delicacy in many places around the world

  1. Squash soup? I have a recipe for pumpkin sausage soup that's good enough for Mark and Christine, DIL, to ask for seconds. Of course, the secret is lots of medium-spiced sausage. ;)

    1. Pat would probably go for it. I'm not a fan of sausage. You didn't mention Kevin though!

    2. He ate some and might have had seconds. I tipped him off to go for the sausage. I'll have to ask him sometime. Though, it's pretty hard not to like all the heavy cream and butter I add. I can only make it a couple of times in the winter. Mark is currently on a diet/counting calories, so it's a lot of popcorn and apples. He made GF brownies last night and has them divided up in 160 calorie portions. I am sharing in the suffering.

    3. Milk based soups don't taste good without "real" milk. I can only tolerate a very small amount of cream.
