Winter has arrived in South Padre Island or at least January is the coldest month of the year with an average temperature of 61°. That's still pretty mild. The weather was nice over the New Year's weekend. Wednesday, with a north wind, was just plain cold.
My first walk of the day to public access #1 gets me 4,000-5,000 steps of my 15,000 step goal for the day. Wednesday I decided to push it and try to go to public access #8. Further than I have ever gone here and walking straight into a 20 mph cold north wind. Each access has a marker topped with a beach flag, which always has a red flag. At access #8 I could see the next two flags so I decided to keep going, then, 10 and finally I stopped at access #18. Coming back with the wind at my back I almost felt like I was floating.
Notice the even numbers? Well, my mind (Pat more accurately calls it OCD) operates in evens, UNLESS it's checking something. Is the stove off? That, and other things I check, 3 times. I can't explain it, I know it's illogical, but I have to. The more stressed my life seems to me, the stronger the need to do these things. I figure Pat must love me a lot because I know I drive him bonkers!
Anyway, 21,000 steps and 8.5 miles by 10:30. Total steps for the day? 32,500 and 13.5 miles. Back to where I was before we started RVing and BKI (before knee injuries). I can't, nor do I want to, sustain those long walks but I felt good about the day.

| We drove to the Port Mansfield Channel on Tues. so I could look for shells (successful) and sea glass (unsuccessful). It's only 13 miles from our RV Park. |

| They had a polar plunge at the pier in the distance on New Year's day. Pleeeease, water temperature was 68°! |
The large grouping of sand castles above? The tide finally took them out!
I really miss the beach walks, even in the cooler weather, but plan to be in Galveston for February.
ReplyDeleteWe'll look forward to seeing you! Even if the weather is cooler some days, it's not Iowa cold and it doesn't last. I'm certainly enjoying it.
