All that glitters is not gold!

The water was ice cold!

Just inside the south entrance to Sequoia we took our final hike Weds. It was only a half mile down to the river, but so pretty.  We were here a full week, a long time in our summer life. It makes me a little sad when it's time to move on.

We met some nice folks here, from California, Arizona, Canada, some seasoned travelers and some newbies.  Two of the couples were also heading up to the Sonoma/Napa area. One is actually staying at the same campground we are in Napa, but not necessarily at the same time.

The small pieces in this picture glittered like gold in the sunshine.

Three Rivers Hideaway was a small campground. Nice for us because it was 6 miles from the south entrance to Sequoia. At least it would have been nice if the Generals Highway (so named because it covers General Grants Grove in Kings Canyon to General Sherman's Tree in Sequoia) had been opened.

The campground, as well as other places in the town of Three Rivers, offered white water rafting. The put-in or take-out, not sure which, was located in our campground. We should have, but didn't. Maybe another time. Beautiful views of mountains and a nice sized waterfall across the river.

Turkeys get up early. There were several in the campground.  This "turkey" parked himself in front of the RV and had a stare off with Pat. At least Pat was inside.

A long and extremely bumpy drive Thursday, but we made it to wine country! We're here 7 days and have reservations for taste testing at 3 wineries. Pretty sure we'll check out some others too.

Where are the Piepers now? Napa, CA

    1. Today we took it easy. We are only a couple of miles from Napa so we went there for lunch. Each of the next 3 days we have reservations at some very nice wineries.
