We made it through!

Both Waze and the Garmin RV took us this way. We are just under 12' by the way. Since the warning bars didn't brush the top of the RV Pat went for it!

The Bankhead Tunnel runs under the Mobile River in Mobile, Alabama. It was built in sections and floated to the proper position, sunk and then joined underwater. It was completed in 1941 for $4 million and is 40' under the top of the water.

I don't remember going down, but Pat said we did. I was busy listening for the top of the RV to rip off. I've seen on TV where that happens and it isn't a pretty sight!

We are really enjoying our Advent calendars! Today's wine has been my favorite so far but all of the wines, cheeses, and chocolates (that one should go without saying) have been great. Pat doesn't care for white wines and I'm sure I heard him say yesterday's white wine was pretty good. I'm not a super fan of white wine either but paired with certain foods I enjoy it. My friend Debbie and I went to a wine pairing class in Quincy, IL many years ago and it showed me white wines in a new light.

Advent Calendar day 5: Handle With Care Cabernet Sauvignon from Bulgaria, Mediterranean Gouda (earthy olives, sweet basil, sun-dried tomatoes, and spicy garlic) and a Dark Chocolate Ganache from Peru.

We had lunch at the Louisiana Welcome Center.

We're in with the big rigs.

I imagined lots of stories about this shoe.

Thank you to Cracker Barrel in Lafayette, LA for letting us spend the night.
Where are the Piepers now? Lafayette, LA

  1. I was confused about this tunnel post since we went through Mobile, then, looking at the map, realized we took the George Wallace tunnel on I-10 which is taller.
