Fixes and Fails - Safe-T-Plus Steering stabilizer

On our first drive of our 2019 Thor Palazzo 33.2 from Houston to KC, I noticed considerable control issues when being passed by a Semi or actually anything of any size.  It wasn't so much that they pushed me over when they approached and then sucked me in as they passed, as it was that it took a while to feel like I was in control again and not just swerving from one side of the road to the other. (Probably wasn't quite that bad, but this was my first time driving something of this size).

When I was at Spillman Service watching them scratch their heads over the heater issue, I saw a display for the Safe T Plus steering stabilizer.  I had also seen one at Camping World of Houston, but I was starting to discount any recommendations from CW after having to deal with them on Warranty issues.  It is basically a big shock absorber that attaches to the steering arms.  I asked about it and they said their customers loved it.  They mentioned one guy who had it installed and came back shortly and was complaining that he didn't notice a difference, but then came back after taking a long trip and was singing its praises.  So, I went for it.

Our first big trip (other than trips to Camping World, Spillman, and Freightliner for warranty work) was right after my position was eliminated and we needed to return three Grand-Daughters to their parents in Houston.  The first thing I noticed was that, I still felt it when a Semi passed, but I did not feel like I was about to lose control trying to correct from the push and pull of the passing truck.  I also noticed that it was easier to control in a cross wind.  Definitely not like driving a car, but a whole lot less like ... well whatever that was.

I have also noticed a few times where I got a little close to the right side of the road where there was a drop of about an inch from the pavement to the shoulder and I was able to maintain control and easily pull it back to the left.

I am sold on the Safe T Plus steering stabilizer.

  1. Speaking of travels, how about marking on a Google map where you've been?

  2. We would like to put an auto-updating Google map on blogger. Do you know how to do this?

  3. I guess you have lost track of time. I saw this post on Thursday and it initially confused me, but I verified that it was indeed Thursday and not Friday, at least where I am living. :)

    1. We had a great debate over this. We post in the evening. I often do it later. It's on the blog immediately and those signed up by Facebook get it immediately. Those signed up by email receive it the next morning, in this case Fri., between 7 and 8 CST. Someone gets it early or late. We have now renamed it to just "Fixes and Fails," no Friday.😃
