Our last day in the UP

We really enjoyed our time in the Upper Peninsula.  If you haven't been I would highly recommend it. I would suggest going in the summer though, unless you are really fond of snow!

We took one final trip this morning to the Jam Jar, operated by the monks at the Holy Transfiguration Skete Society of St. John.  We didn't get there until 11 and there was a short line, mainly because the store was small.  Everyone around us had masks on and kept their distance.  I'm not sure where else you find wild Thimleberries, but I hadn't heard of them before.  They ripen in late July or early August and although we didn't try any on our walks, people said they taste like raspberries just a little tarter.  When they are ripe they are red. We  grabbed our Thimbleberry Jam and a package of chocolate chip cookies.  The cookies looked really good but they were very crumbly and dry. I'll eat them anyway.

I must have been focused on the Jam Pot on the other side of the road when I missed the Monastery the first time we went by.  They are surrounded by a lot of trees.  It's a pretty neat building.  Guess they sell a lot of jam!

    1. Not for Pat. It was cool enough I wore long pants and shirt and didn't get too many. If a person doesn't mind a wood fire that would help too.Flies were a problem for both of us. Worth it for the scenery. Plan to go back to Copper Harbor at some point and follow coast to Saux St. Marie.
